Disney acquires full control of Hulu
Disney terminates agreement with Comcast after pricing discrepancies; Disney takes full control of the Hulu platform.

The Walt Disney Company has agreed to pay $1,438.7 million for Comcast's stake in the streaming service Hulu. This news concludes a lengthy appraisal process that began in 2023, when Disney announced its intention to acquire Comcast's stake in the service.
With this acquisition, the Walt Disney Company assumes full control of Hulu. Previously, Disney controlled two-thirds of the company's shares, and Comcast held the other three-thirds. Both companies expect to close this transaction before July 24 of this year.
The History of Disney and Hulu
The relationship between the Walt Disney Company and the Hulu service began in 2019, when Disney acquired Twenty-First Century Fox Inc.'s entertainment divisions valued at $71 billion.
Among these entertainment divisions were the two-thirds stake in Hulu owned by Fox, which was transferred to the Walt Disney Company. The other third belonged to NBCUniversal, the Comcast subsidiary responsible for its entertainment division.
The acquisition of Fox left Disney in a very good position to acquire the rest of Hulu, which They started making it in 2023. Disney made an initial payment of $$8.6 billion, a figure based on Hulu's minimum guaranteed value, which Disney and Comcast defined as $27.5 billion in 2019. After this initial payment, both companies began a valuation process that was supposed to conclude in 2024,
However, this appraisal process was delayed until yesterday: June 9, 2025. Appraisers from both companies failed to reach an agreement, so negotiations were delegated to a third appraisal body. This third body set the value of Comcast's shares in Hulu at $$438.7 million.
The Future of Hulu.
Disney CEO Bob Iger explained that this acquisition will allow for greater synchronization between the Hulu and Disney+ streaming services. He shared his opinion on the acquisition with the following statement:
“We are pleased that this has finally been resolved. We have had a productive collaboration with NBCUniversal and wish them the best of luck.”
A Comcast representative shared a similarly pleased attitude about the acquisition: “We wish Disney the best with Hulu, and appreciate the cooperative way our teams managed the collaboration.”
