The 2025 US Open, the 145th edition of the year's final Grand Slam, will be played from August 24 to September 7 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York. This will be the final edition under Stacey Allaster's direction. The defending singles champions are Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka.

Mixed Doubles: A New Two-Day Show

This year, the tournament introduces a revolutionary format for the mixed doubles draw: reduced to 16 pairs in a two-day competition (August 19 and 20) during Fan Week, prior to the start of the main tournament.

Stars, controversy and a million-dollar prize

The change aims to give prominence to mixed doubles, bringing in names such as Carlos Alcaraz, Emma Raducanu, Iga Swiatek, Novak Djokovic and Venus Williams, who will compete under accelerated rules:

  • Four-game sets
  • Decisive point in a tie
  • A 10-point super tiebreak.

The prize for the winning couple reaches a record US$$1 million.

However, the reformulation has caused opposition among doubles specialists, such as defending champions Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori, who described the measure as unfair and detrimental to the true exponents of the discipline.

With its blend of innovation, controversy, and stellar talent, the 2025 US Open promises to be much more than a tournament: it will be a stage where tradition and change collide, and where tennis will seek to win over a new generation of fans without losing its essence.
