Starting this summer, taking an Uber or Lyft to or from Boston Logan International Airport will cost more due to a preliminary agreement between ride-hailing companies and the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport). This change implies an increase in fares that will affect users, but also promises improvements in the transportation experience.

Fare Increase at Logan Airport

Massport, the agency that manages Logan Airport, has tentatively approved an increase in the fare paid by Uber and Lyft for each passenger pickup or drop-off. The current fare is $$3.25 per ride, but with the new agreement, it will increase to $$5.50 each way. For rideshares, the fare will be lower, set at $$1.50 per ride.
This adjustment, which will be passed on to passengers through higher fares, was announced Wednesday and will be formally voted on at the next Massport City Council meeting. The funds raised will be used to fund infrastructure improvements at Logan Airport.

Measures to Reduce Congestion

The agreement also includes initiatives to ease traffic at and around the airport. Uber and Lyft will expand access to ride-sharing options, aiming to reduce individual trips. Massport, meanwhile, will test expanded curb access to improve efficiency for pickups and drop-offs.

Additional Innovations in Transportation

The agreement also includes innovative projects. Uber and Lyft will develop a "last-mile" program to encourage the use of Logan Express, the airport shuttle service. They will also collaborate with Massport to launch a commuter service that offers a cost-effective and efficient alternative to individual travel.
