Red Sox beat Yankees 3-1 in Game 1 of Wild Card
Red Sox beat Yankees 3-1 in Game 1 of the Wild Card game, with a gem from Garrett Crochet and a key hit from Masataka Yoshida.

In the start of the American League wild card series, the Boston Red Sox surprised by winning 3-1 against The New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium.
Keys to the Red Sox vs. Yankees game
Garrett Crochet was the undisputed star. The Boston pitcher retired 17 consecutive batters, racked up 11 strikeouts in 7.5 innings, and allowed just four hits without issuing a walk.
The Yankees took the lead with a solo home run by Anthony Volpe in the second inning. But Boston rallied when starter Max Fried came on. They did so with a clutch single by Masataka Yoshida as a pinch-hitter, which drove in two runs and turned the score around.
To seal the victory, Alex Bregman delivered an RBI double in the ninth and closer Aroldis Chapman (ex-Yankee) escaped a dangerous moment with the bases loaded to secure Boston's victory.
What it meant for the Yankees
Max Fried did a good job, keeping the game close until the seventh inning. However, the bullpen failed: Luke Weaver gave up Yoshida's key hit, completely changing the dynamic of the game.
The Yankees offense failed to capitalize on critical opportunities, especially with runners in scoring position.
