Natalia Lafourcade arrives in Boston this weekend with her Cancionera Tour, delighting audiences with her talent at the Boch Theater.

Natalia Lafourcade, one of the most iconic voices in contemporary Latin music, will perform this weekend at Boston's Boch Theater with two concerts, on Saturday and Sunday. Lafourcade will delight audiences as part of her tour. Cancionera Tour, which will take her to international stages in Europe, Canada, and Latin America before concluding with a final show in Miami, Florida.

Lafourcade is one of the most recognized figures across various genres of Latin music: notably, she is the female singer with the most hits. Latin Grammys in the world. Her musical career demonstrates the story of an artist who gives her all to each work she produces; an inspiration to millions of people who see their desires, stories, and feelings reflected in the lyrics and melodies Lafourcade expertly creates. 

Let's explore the story of how this singer rose to stardom.

Early Career: Twist

Natalia Lafourcade was born in Mexico City in 1984 and raised in Coatepec, Veracruz. She was surrounded by musical influences from a very young age, the daughter of Chilean musician Gastón Lafourcade and pianist María del Carmén Silva Contreras. 

Lafourcade's mother, a music education specialist, developed a new method of therapy through music to help rehabilitate her daughter after Natalia was kicked in the head by a horse. The influence of both her parents continues to inspire the artist's music today.

In 1998, Lafourcade joined a pop group called Twist, which she abandoned after just one year. Although Lafourcade has expressed disappointment in this experience, her time with Twist represented the first step in his illustrious musical career.

Fourcade released his first solo album titled Natalia Fourcade in 2002. This album includes songs like “Mírame, Mírame,” “Te Quiero Dar” and her most successful song, “En el 2000.” This album elevated Lafourcade to a new level of popularity, receiving several nominations in the Latin Grammy Awards from 2004.

Lafourcade enjoyed her newfound success by embarking on a tour, and composing songs for several Mexican shows and films such as “Duck Season.” At the end of her first tour, Lafourcade began performing as part of the band Natalia and Forquetina.

Home 

Lafourcade, now as Natalia and Forquetina, published the album Home in 2005. This album was also received very positively, earning the group the Latin Grammy for “Best Rock Album by a Duo or Group” in 2006.

This album was more focused on the Latin rock genre than Natalia Lafourcade, with songs like “Casa,” “Piel Canela” and “Suelo.” After a final tour in 2006, Lafourcade left the group to return to performing as a soloist.

To the Root

As a solo artist, Lafourcade enjoyed several hits with her upcoming albums. Hu Hu Hu, Latin Rock and Divine Woman between 2009 and 2012, and also collaborated with other artists on several different songs such as “Contigo” with Song of the Fool.

In 2015, Lafourcade published To the Root, Considered one of the most important albums in his discography. This album contains the title track, “Hasta la Raíz,” which won the awards Latin Grammy for “Song of the Year,” “Best Alternative Song,” and “Record of the Year.” The album To the Root won the “Alternative Album of the Year” and “Best Constructed Album” awards.

Lafourcade published a cumbia version of the first song of To the Root, “It’s Never Enough,” with the group The Blue Angels in 2018. This song became one of the artist's biggest hits: currently, the music video “It’s Never Enough” It is one of the most viewed Mexican videos in Youtube, with more than 2 billion views.

Of All the Flowers

Lafourcade continued collaborating with different artists, and creating different versions of her most popular hits. The albums Muses Vol 1-2, and A Song for Mexico Vol 1-2 include several collaborations that kept Lafourcade firmly in the spotlight as she prepared to release her next original album. 

In 2022, Lafourcade produced Of All the Flowers, with original songs such as “María la Curandera,” “El Lugar Correcto” and “Vine Alone.”

Natalia Lafourcade Now: Songbook 

In April of this year, Lafourcade published Songbook, An album that explores even more musical genres, such as boleros and jazz. The album has been positively received, with several media outlets reporting their appreciation for the influence of Mexican culture evident throughout.
