A video went viral on social media and sparked confusion after revealing that popular content creator MrBeast, in a serious tone, claimed he had bought the NFL, while being accompanied in a mock press conference by Commissioner Roger Goodell.

The scene captured the attention of millions, and many wondered if, indeed, the influencer had acquired control of the world's top American football league.

However, it was quickly confirmed that the claim wasn't real. It was a publicity stunt designed to promote a historic moment in sports broadcasting: YouTube would be streaming an exclusive NFL game for free for the first time. This humorous video was just part of that promotional campaign.

What the video showed

  • In the video, MrBeast appears alongside Roger Goodell, announcing fictional changes such as adding a YouTube creator to each team.
  • The intention was to generate excitement around the game between the Chargers and the Chiefs, which would be played on September 5 in São Paulo, Brazil, and which would be broadcast exclusively on YouTube.

Is it possible that MrBeast bought the NFL?

In practice, no. The NFL is made up of 32 teams, each with independent owner(s); the commissioner has no ownership of the league. Buying even a single team requires billions of dollars—and acquiring the entire league would be an impossible operation for a single person.

Furthermore, although estimates place MrBeast's net worth in the billions (in accounting terms), his financial capacity is far from reaching the level required for a transaction of this magnitude.
