“Today is my son Rocco’s birthday. I feel the greatest gift I can give him as a mother is to ask everyone to do what they can to help save the innocent children caught in the crossfire in Gaza. I’m not pointing fingers, blaming anyone, or taking sides; everyone is suffering. I’m just trying to do what I can to prevent these children from starving to death.” – Madonna, X.
The American singer continued this message with a paragraph of text addressed to Pope Leo XIV:
“Most Holy Father, please go to Gaza and bring your light to the children before it is too late. As a mother, I cannot bear to see their suffering. The children of the world belong to everyone. You are the only one of us who cannot be denied entry. We need the humanitarian doors to be opened wide to save these innocent children. There is no more time. Please say you will go. Love, Madonna.”
The Gaza Strip is currently experiencing a humanitarian crisis caused by the conflict between the Israeli and Palestinian people. The Palestinian people are ruled by different factions, including the Hamas terrorist group, responsible for the attack against Israel on October 7, 2023.
The Israeli government has restricted the entry of humanitarian resources from various international factions to assist the Palestinian population of Gaza, which has suffered the greatest number of deaths, injuries, and forced displacement as a result of this conflict.
Pope Leo XIV, Gaza and Madonna
Pope Leo XIV recently reiterated his desire for an end to the violence in the Gaza Strip. Speaking near his residence in Rome, the Vatican leader I implore the international community:
“Once again, I call for an immediate end to the barbarity of war. I call on the international community to respect humanitarian law and fulfill its obligation to protect civilians, as well as the prohibition of collective punishment, the indiscriminate use of force, and the forced displacement of populations.”
Pope Leo XIV gave this message in response to an Israeli attack on the Holy Family parish in Gaza City. This attack resulted in the death of three Christians and the wounding of several others.
Madonna is not the first entertainment figure to demand a ceasefire in Gaza. However, her decision to invoke the Pope, the most important religious figure in the West, could result in a stronger reaction from the international community.
