The New England Patriots have announced that wide receiver Julian Edelman will be the newest member of the team's Hall of Fame. Edelman, who retired in 2021, won a fan vote in his first year of eligibility, securing his place among Patriots legends.

An NFL Star

Originally a quarterback at Kent State University, Edelman was selected by the Patriots in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL Draft. Upon joining the team, he transitioned to wide receiver, a move that would define his professional career.

Edelman spent his entire 12-year career with the Patriots, helping them win three Super Bowl titles. He was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of Super Bowl LIII in 2019 after a standout performance against the Los Angeles Rams.

A career defined by excellence

Edelman recorded 620 receptions, 6,822 receiving yards, and 36 touchdowns, ranking among the Patriots' all-time leaders. He also excelled on special teams, holding the franchise record for the highest punt return average (11.2 yards) among players with at least 75 returns.

In the postseason, Edelman steadily elevated his game. In 19 playoff appearances, he racked up 118 receptions for 1,442 yards, ranking third in NFL history in postseason receiving yards.

One of his most iconic moments came in Super Bowl LI in 2017. With the Patriots trailing 28–3, Tom Brady threw a pass up the middle that was deflected by Falcons cornerback Robert Alford. Edelman, surrounded by defenders, made a diving catch, just inches from the turf—a play that propelled the Patriots to the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history.

Fan Voting Consecrates Him

Edelman earned his place in the Patriots Hall of Fame by winning the fan vote. Edelman joins an elite group of Patriots greats, including Tom Brady, who was inducted in 2024, and Bill Parcells, who will be honored in 2025.

Following the announcement, Brady took to social media to praise his teammate and close friend.

Edelman's inclusion is not only a testament to his on-field accomplishments, but also a reflection of the deep connection he forged with fans across New England—a beloved figure who helped define a Patriots dynasty.
