The Donald Trump administration has implemented a temporary suspension of all immigration interviews for student visas, such as the F-1 visa, worldwide. This measure seeks to pave the way for the implementation of stricter controls on applicants' social media backgrounds.

The government announced this measure via a statement signed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Tuesday 27, obtained by POLITICAL:

“Effective immediately, and in preparation for an expansion of the social media review and verification process, consular sections should not add additional appointment slots for student and exchange visitor visas (F, M, and J) until further guidance is issued, which is anticipated in the coming days.”

In an anonymous statement with AP News, Government authorities assured that this measure will not affect applicants who have already scheduled an immigration interview for F-1 visas or other types of student visas (FMJ). However, thousands of students hoping to begin or continue their studies in the United States now face even greater uncertainty.

The F-1 Visa: Trump's enemy.

This pause is just one of several measures implemented by the Trump administration against international students attending thousands of different institutions across the United States. Since his inauguration earlier this year, the president has worked to redefine the standards and procedures involved in the student immigration process.

Several institutions have criticized the implementation of these immigration measures. Harvard University, the oldest and best-funded university in the country, has become the face of the academic community in its resistance to Trump. Harvard has refused to comply with several requests for information about its international students. Consequently, the Trump administration revoked $2.2 billion in federal funds to Harvard in April.

This reversal was not enough to deter Harvard, which continued to criticize the government's immigration policies. In its most dramatic attack on international students yet, the Trump administration revoked the SEVIS certification Harvard last week, eliminating its ability to enroll and educate international students. A federal judge blocked this move the following day.

International students.

Thousands of international students around the world are anxiously waiting as this situation unfolds. Each year, around one million international students strengthen the academic ecosystem of the United States by studying at various institutions in the country.

International students also play an extremely important role in the economy of these institutions. As these students They are not usually awarded scholarships, contribute funds to universities at a time when fewer and fewer people have the ability to finance their education independently.

It's clear that universities like Harvard have the desire to fight for their international students. The world waits with trepidation and hope as it determines whether this fight will be enough.
