Hot Dog Day: Where to Get Them Cheap or Even Free

July 16th is Hot Dog Day in the U.S., and chains like 7-Eleven, Sonic, and Sheetz are offering Glizzies starting at $1 or free.

The United States surrenders to one of its culinary classics: the hot dog. The celebration of the National Day The hot dog festival this Wednesday, July 16, is coming with special promotions across the country, led by major chains such as 7-Eleven, Wienerschnitzel, Sheetz, Circle K, and Sonic Drive-In, among others. Several cities are also preparing festivals and themed events to pay tribute to this iconic food.

Chains that join with outstanding promotions

  • 7-Eleven (nationwide)
    Offering its classic Big Bite hot dog for just $2 through the 7Rewards and Speedy Rewards programs from July 8 to 22. Additionally, combos with fries and a drink will be available for $5.
  • Wienerschnitzel (mainly in the western and southern US)
    Participate in a special promotion: 4 Chili Dogs for $4 only on July 16 at participating locations. The chain is also expanding its presence in Walmart stores, bringing more hot dogs to consumers.
  • Sheetz (Mid-Atlantic and Northeast)
    Give away 2 free hot dogs when you fill up with 10 gallons of gas between July 16 and 22. Offer available through the app in states like Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia, and North Carolina.
  • Circle K (national)
    Launches an exclusive offer: 2 hot dogs for $1 on July 16, available only through its mobile app.
  • EG America (Cumberland Farms, Turkey Hill, Quik Stop, among others)
    More than 1,600 locations will be offering two beef hot dogs for $1,400 starting July 14th.
  • Sonic Drive-In (in multiple southern and midwestern states)
    Promoting its hot dogs with special prices: $1 corn dog, $2 All-American Dog, and $3 Footlong Coney, available through its app throughout July.

In addition to the chains, several cities are organizing activities to celebrate Hot Dog Day:

  • New York City (NY): Food trucks and street vendor promotions, especially in Central Park and Times Square.
  • Los Angeles (CA)Family events in Venice Beach and Santa Monica with tastings and live shows.
  • Chicago (IL)The city of the “Chicago Dog” will have hot dog tastings and eating contests at Navy Pier.

  • Huntington (WV): The famous West Virginia Hot Dog Festival, which brings together hundreds of people with music, games and charity.
  • St. Louis (MO): It is celebrated on Hot Dog Safari, a community event with tastings and fundraising.

A classic that never goes out of style

According to the National Sausage and Hot Dog Council, Americans consume more than 7 billion hot dogs each summer, especially during July, National Hot Dog Month. This celebration combines nostalgia, flavor, and community, cementing the hot dog as one of the country's most beloved culinary icons.

Boston: $1 Glizzies at Silhouette Lounge (Allston)

The iconic Silhouette Lounge, located at 200 Brighton Avenue in Allston, is joining the party with its “$1 Glizzies.”

All day on July 16th (4:00 PM to 1:00 AM), offer valid with the purchase of a beverage, while supplies last. Only one hot dog per person, although the first 50 people to order a PBR Lite beer will receive a free Glizzy. Plus, if someone gets a tattoo with a Silhouette design like the logo or a design alluding to it, they're entitled to a free hot dog for life!

Local Events in Boston

  • He Boston Hot Dog Safari, a charitable tradition founded in 1990 by sportscaster Eddie Andelman, offers unlimited tastings to raise funds for cystic fibrosis research.
  • While there are no major festivals announced for this month, some local bars (like Lincoln or The Silhouette) host nightly specials that include creative toppings, contests, and charitable donations.
