Children's creativity and construction with recycled materials

On April 12 and 13, 2025, the Boston Society for Architecture (BSA) held its 33rd annual “KidsBuild!” event, where more than 800 children, ages 5 to 13, participated in building a model Boston city using exclusively recycled materials. This event, held at the BSA Space in Atlantic Wharf, has become a tradition that fosters creativity and environmental awareness among young people.

Urban design based on recycled materials

During the event, participants were assigned a "site" and a "building code," guided by volunteer architects and designers. The children designed and built their structures, integrating them into a scale model of the city of Boston. This approach not only fostered creativity, but also teamwork and learning about urban planning and sustainability.

Environmental education through construction with recycled materials

One of the event's key objectives was to teach children about the importance of sustainability in building with recycled materials. Older participants faced the challenge of designing their buildings using a limited range of materials, incorporating elements such as solar panels and wind turbines, reflecting a commitment to the environment and energy efficiency.

Community impact and legacy of the event

“KidsBuild!"It's not only a recreational activity, but also an educational tool that bridges gaps in access to design and architecture education. Through this event, the BSA seeks to inspire the next generation of leaders to think critically about the built environment and its impact on the community."

Promoting creativity and environmental commitment

The 2025 “KidsBuild!” event demonstrated how the construction with recycled materials It can be a platform for children to express their creativity while learning about sustainability and teamwork. This initiative not only builds a model city, but also a more conscious and collaborative future.
