The birthplace of the Revolution, Boston offers many opportunities throughout the city and surrounding neighborhoods to celebrate the Fourth of July, with historical reenactments, local musicians, and fireworks everywhere.

From the iconic Boston Pops fireworks show to vibrant multi-day festivals like Harborfest, the city is filled with patriotic spirit throughout the holiday weekend.

Boston Pops Fireworks Show

One of the most iconic events of July 4th in Boston is the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular, which takes place at the Hatch Memorial Shell, on the banks of the picturesque Charles River. This tradition, which began in 1929 under the direction of maestro Arthur Fiedler, has become a symbol of the city's Independence Day celebrations.

This year's concert will feature an impressive list of guest artists, including multi-platinum singer-songwriter LeAnn Rimes, Broadway and film star Leslie Odom Jr., hip-hop trio Bell Biv DeVoe, the Soldiers' Choir of the United States Army Field Band, and the Boston Children's Choir.

Under the direction of Keith Lockhart, who is celebrating his 30th anniversary leading the Boston Pops, the show will include patriotic classics and will conclude with the famous Overture 1812 by Tchaikovsky, accompanied by cannon shots and church bells.

The concert begins on July 4th at 7:00 p.m., and the fireworks will be launched around 9:40 p.m. For those who prefer to watch from home, the event will be broadcast on local television channels.

Boston Harborfest: A Multi-Day Celebration

From July 2 to 4, Boston Harborfest Celebrates the city's maritime and revolutionary history. This lively festival has something for everyone: craft markets, live music in downtown Boston, historical reenactments, and even beer gardens for the adults.

If you want to avoid the large crowds near the Charles River on the 4th, Harborfest offers an alternative show of fireworks on July 2 at Long Wharf.
