For nearly five decades, Art in Bloom has been a spring tradition at the Museum of Fine Arts (MFA), attracting thousands of visitors. From May 2–4, Art in Bloom transforms the museum's galleries into gardens, showcasing floral arrangements inspired by works of art from across the collection.

The event pairs pieces from the museum's vast collection with imaginative floral designs created by New England garden clubs, professional florists, and volunteers. A total of 45 unique arrangements will offer new perspectives on iconic works, creating a dynamic dialogue between art and nature.

Events This Weekend

Jimmy Guzman, a local floral designer and frequent contributor to MFA Art in Bloom, will lead an interactive activity during the event. Visitors can meet Guzman throughout the weekend to learn about the process of creating these bouquets, which are authentic to the works that inspire them. This isn't just an event where you simply place a flower; Guzman seeks to share the emotional charge that comes with making floral art, introducing that vulnerability to the community and broadening their understanding of the creative process.

Floral expert Sandra Sigman, author and founder of Les Fleurs, a French-inspired shop in Andover, Massachusetts, will offer two master classes on Saturday. Participants will create their own French-style floral arrangements with fresh blooms in garden containers during a two-hour session.

Complementary Exhibitions at the MFA

Art in Bloom attendees will also be able to enjoy two major MFA exhibitions. Van Gogh: The Roulin Family Portraits, opened on March 30, features Van Gogh's portraits of the Roulin family—his neighbors in Arles—and reflects the deep friendship and emotional connection they shared.

Also on display Witnessing Humanity: The Art of John Wilson, an exhibition highlighting the Roxbury-born artist's powerful explorations of racial injustice, identity, and human connection.

This vibrant spring celebration at the Museum of Fine Arts offers a unique opportunity to experience world-class art through the lens of creative floral design. Visit mfa.org to plan your visit.
