The 2025 AmeriCup is experiencing intense days in the Nicaraguan capital, where the group stage produced historic results and matches decided in the final seconds. The continental basketball tournament, which brings together 12 national teams from the Americas, takes place from August 22 to 31.

The big surprise came with Uruguay, which beat the United States 86-85, only the second time they have achieved a victory over the Americans in this championship. The Uruguayan victory shook up expectations and heated up the competition in Group A.

For its part, Canada consolidated its position as favorite after finishing undefeated (3-0) in Group B, with a solid 82-73 victory over Puerto Rico.

In another thrilling duel, Argentina defeated Colombia 84-83 thanks to a buzzer-beating three-pointer by Nicolás Brussino, securing their place in the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, Venezuela defeated Panama 77-73 to secure third place in Group C.

Puerto Rico, led by George Conditt IV—who scored 16 points and 13 rebounds—also advanced to the next round and keeps its medal hopes alive.
