In high-impact images on social media, the iconic main stage of the Tomorrowland 2025 festival was hit by a fire this Wednesday, just two days before the start of its first edition, scheduled for July 18-20.
The fire and immediate response
Authorities reported that the flames began during a fireworks rehearsal, consuming much of the frozen-world-inspired structure, with loud explosions and thick smoke.
Around 1,000 workers evacuated without injuries, according to official sources from The Sun.
The flames affected more than 75 % of the stage, which was completely burned.
Concerns and reactions
Rural authorities advised residents to close windows and doors to avoid smoke inhalation. Fire crews from Boom and Antwerp worked to contain the flames and prevent them from spreading to adjacent areas. The festival, one of the world's largest electronic music events, expects up to 400,000 people to attend over two weekends.
Is the Tomorrowland schedule still on?
The organizers announced that the event is still on, although they haven't confirmed whether they will be able to rebuild or replace the damaged stage. The next 48 hours will be crucial to decide whether it will go ahead as planned or with logistical adjustments.
The episode is reminiscent of a similar incident in 2017, during a satellite festival in Barcelona, which also prompted an emergency evacuation. In the absence of further details on the damage and investigations, Tomorrowland faces a test of its operational capacity in the face of adversity.
