A statue approximately twelve feet tall depicting Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein holding hands appeared this morning on the National Mall, across from the Capitol. The work, titled “Best Friends Forever”, was installed by an anonymous art collective known as The Secret Handshake.
The collective's purpose, according to plaques placed at the base of the monument, is to rekindle the debate about the relationship between Trump and Epstein, who was convicted of sexual offenses. One of the inscriptions celebrates the bond between the two as "the enduring friendship" between Trump and his "closest friend."
Although the provocative piece was temporarily authorized by the National Park Service under the terms of freedom of artistic expression, it has received criticism from various quarters. Pro-Trump voices have dismissed it as a political provocation, while advocates for Epstein's victims' rights have pointed out that the work aims to underscore the need for greater transparency and accountability.
This type of installation is part of a series of temporary sculptures in Washington that seek to generate public reflection or symbolic protest regarding controversial political figures. The statue will remain in place until Sunday as part of the approval granted by authorities as an artistic expression.
