With Boston as one of the host cities of the FIFA World Cup 2026Mike Loynd, the city's executive director of the event, emphasized that "Boston is one of the most historic and influential cities in the United States, and this will be a historic moment for our city." He enthusiastically called on the community to participate by volunteering at the games of this major sporting event.

Dates and requirements to volunteer at the World Cup

Boston will host seven games, including a quarterfinal match scheduled for July 9, 2026, at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, renamed "Boston Stadium" during the tournament.

Volunteers 18 and older are sought who can commit to eight shifts, between June 11 and July 19, 2026, in Boston, Foxborough, and other key locations.

How to apply

You can register your interest and access the formal application later by visiting the local Organizing Committee website: bostonfwc26.com/volunteer.

Applications are open since August 2025 and are expected to close on December 1, 2025, according to a source affiliated with Merrimack College.

Once selected, volunteers will participate in pre-tournament training and receive uniforms, meals, and recognition for their work, based on the general FIFA volunteer model.

Public perception

An Axios Boston poll showed that 56% of readers approve of hosting the World Cup, although 43% expressed concern about potential setbacks such as traffic, crowding, and transportation difficulties.
