Mayor Robert F. Sullivan has proclaimed August 21, 2025, as “Doug Flutie Day” in Brockton, in recognition of the legendary quarterback’s career and commitment to community causes. The celebration will coincide with a special event at Campanelli Stadium, where Flutie will symbolically join the Brockton Rox roster to face the Quebec Capitales.
During the event, organized in partnership with Eastern Bank, Flutie will throw out the ceremonial first pitch, sign autographs for fans, and take the mound to face a live batter.
Between baseball, football and solidarity
The evening will feature a football-inspired community challenge, in which Flutie will pass to Quincy Miller, president and COO of Eastern Bank and former college football player. Based on the distance of the completed pass, donations will be made to the House of Possibilities organization, which supports people with disabilities and their families on the path to independence.
Additionally, attendees can contribute to the Doug Flutie Foundation, dedicated to empowering individuals and families affected by autism, in exchange for a signature from the former quarterback.
Statements from the protagonists
“It’s an honor to suit up in a Rox uniform and support the Brockton community,” said Flutie, who expressed his excitement about showcasing his skills on the diamond and his gratitude to Eastern Bank and the Rox for making the event a charitable opportunity.
Quincy Miller noted that this event combines "the best of sports, community, and social engagement," while Shawn Reilly, president of the Rox, said it will be "an unforgettable night of baseball, football, and mutual aid."
For his part, Mayor Sullivan celebrated Flutie's arrival in the "City of Champions," highlighting his connection to Boston College and encouraging residents to join this unique event.
