The Cape Verdean Association of Brockton celebrated its traditional meeting this Sunday, July 27th Cape Verde Day Festival, for the first time at the iconic Campanelli Stadium, home of the Brockton Rox baseball team. This annual event, deeply rooted in the local community, drew thousands of attendees for a day filled with live music, traditional dances, food, and family activities.

This year's event held special significance as it coincided with the 50th anniversary of the independence of Cape Verde, a West African nation whose diaspora accounts for nearly 25% of Brockton's population.

Support for Cape Verde Celebration

The festival was supported by key organizations such as Eastern Bank and the Brockton Rox, whose teams were present with special activities. Eastern Bank provided shelves with promotional items and raffles, while the Brockton Rox welcomed families with participation from players, club staff, and their popular mascots, KO and Champ, who interacted with the public on the green in front of the Shaw's Center.

“We are excited to celebrate Cape Verde Day at Campanelli Stadium this year—a special place in Brockton that brings families and fun together—and we thank the Brockton Rox organization, our friends at Eastern Bank, and the entire community for joining us for this joyful festival,” express Moises Rodrigues, Executive Director of the Cape Verdean Association of Brockton.

For its part, Shawn Reilly, president of the Brockton Rox team, said:

“Campanelli Stadium and the Rox were proud to host the first-ever Cape Verde Day Festival, celebrating the vibrant community and culture that makes Brockton unique.”

In addition, Bob Rivers, Executive Chairman of the Board of Eastern Bank, added:

“The Cape Verdean Association of Brockton has long been a voice of support and awareness in our community. We are honored to continue supporting this festival and look forward to continuing to connect with everyone.”
