Trump asks for a pardon for Netanyahu and calls him a "hero"

The Israeli prime minister thanked the former US president for his "tremendous support" for Israel as he faces a complex corruption trial.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his gratitude to Donald Trump through his account on the social network X.

“Thank you, President Trump, for your moving endorsement of me and your tremendous support for Israel and the Jewish people,” Netanyahu posted. He also assured that they will continue working together to “defeat our common enemies, free the hostages, and rapidly expand the circle of peace.”

Trump calls him a “hero”

Hours earlier, the former US president had criticized the legal proceedings against Netanyahu, calling them a "ridiculous witch hunt." He asked that they be cancelled "immediately" or that he be granted a pardon. “for being a great hero who has done so much for the State of Israel.”

Trial suspended due to the situation in Gaza

Prime Minister Amit Hadad's lawyer requested a two-week suspension of the court hearings on Thursday, arguing that Netanyahu needs to focus on "top-level diplomatic, domestic, and security matters," a direct reference to the military offensive in the Gaza Strip.

Three corruption cases still pending

The trial against Netanyahu began in May 2020 and focuses on three different cases. The most serious, known as Case 4000accuses the president of having favored the telecommunications giant Bezeq in exchange for favorable media coverage. Netanyahu has denied all the accusations.
