Los Tigres del Norte, one of the most important bands in the history of Latin American music, will perform on tour tomorrow, May 23, at the Wang Theater in Boston. The "Bosses of Bosses" will delight their audience with a combination of their most iconic songs and their recent hits.

The northern group will be passing through Boston as part of their tour. The Lottery, which will take them through various regions of the United States. Los Tigres del Norte kicked off their tour in San Jose, California, and then headed to Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Tomorrow's show will be their third of several stops, which will take the group to the international stages of Barcelona and Mexico City.

The Tigers of the North: Origins in Sinaloa

Los Tigres del Norte began as a small band of teenagers in Sinaloa, Mexico. Led by vocalist José Hernández, the group moved to San José in the late 1960s, where they continued to explore their musical talent on a more intimate and local level. Art Walker, an aspiring music promoter, recorded and mentored the young artists at the beginning of their careers.

In 1971, José Hernández heard a mariachi song about drug trafficking between Mexico and the United States. This song inspired Los Tigres del Norte to adopt a more dramatic and narrative style in their songs. As a result, Los Tigres discovered the role they would play in the development of Latin American music when they published their first corrido: Smuggling and Treason.

Smuggling and Treason catapulted the young Sinaloans to international fame, bringing them a legendary status they've maintained for more than 50 years. Los Tigres del Norte have accumulated seven Grammy Awards and 12 Latin Grammy Awards. They've also produced 40 films in collaboration with various Mexican actors and directors.

Today, they are celebrated for their ability to craft songs that analyze the immigrant experience within the larger Latin American diaspora. Originally Mexican themselves, Los Tigres del Norte lend their voice to the immigrant community with songs like Three Times Wet, and The Golden Cage.

Similarly, Los Tigres del Norte draw their audience's attention to the crises generated by drug trafficking. Their narco-corridos address these situations with themes such as: Bales of a Kilo, The Red Wagon Gang and The Boss of Bosses.

If you want to be part of this moment in Latin American music, go to Los Tigres del Norte in concert tomorrow May 23 at Wang Theater.
